The Dulux 2020 Colour Forecast is here… and we are loving what we are seeing!

“Centre yourself, breathe and reconnect” is the opening sentence to the 2020 forecast which goes on to ask us to “let the Dulux Colour Forecast 2020 lead you to the very essence of happiness.” And we think we will.

Dulux have officially been colour forecasting for 21 years and 2020 does indeed see a resurgence of colour across a multitude of palettes that are sure to entice the senses and inspire connection to our ever-changing living environments.

Colour trends are always influenced by what’s happening in the world around us. This year’s theme, Essence, speaks to Dulux’s collective search for the things that bring us essential happiness. Through diverse and contrasting tonal palettes, they have found moments of calm and empowerments, as well as optimism and luxury.

At Fashionline, we always encourage our members and their customers to think about their window furnishings and how they can tie these trends in. The right window furnishing can lift the colour trend across various styles; such as Hamptons, beach or industrial. Think about how a roller blind with a lighter tonal curtain or sheer accent can give a luxurious feel while still adding a splash of one of these colour palettes. Or how shutters in crisp white can be added to maintain that beach house, summer feel.

The four colour palettes of 2020…

Grounded; A simple, neutral palette filled with plenty of warmth.

“Abandon the clutter to opt for mindful choices that hero comfort, longevity and craftsmanship. Natural materials come into play, evoking emotion through the raw beauty of texture and tactility.

Styling tip

Break up your neutral schemes with an accent colour. Include it in your rugs, cushions and artworks.”

Comeback; Colours to blend contemporary design with elegant vintage style.

“Comeback blends eclectic style with vintage charm to create a rich and layered aesthetic that feels expressive in its maximalism, yet reassuringly familiar.

Colour tip

Living with tonal shades of blue helps to create a peaceful and calm space. Make your room feel larger by using lighter shades such as Dulux Blue Shell and Cameo Blue Half.”

Cultivate; A tonal green palette to nurture and regenerate.

“Home is no longer a place to rest and recover, it’s somewhere to rejuvenate and inspire. We seek out innovative ways to bring elements of the natural world into our interiors to encourage personal growth. The Cultivate palette is a calm and gentle layering of greens that reinforces our connection to nature.

Colour tip

Living with green in your home is such a refreshing thing to experience. The ambience is soothing and restful, perfect for combatting the chaos of the modern world.”

Indulge; Cocoon yourself in this charismatic immersive and opulent palette.

“Cocoon yourself in comfort with rich layers of luxurious fabric and decadently rounded forms. Soften hard surfaces with an abundance of fringing, chenille and velvet.

Colour tip

Selecting a decadent colour, such as a rich red or earthy brown, can add an essence of sophistication, and the feeling of connection and security in the space.”
